Police act swiftly after gun purchases(Mail Tribune)
Concerns about an Oregon Department of Transportation employee who purchased several guns after being placed on leave prompted law enforcement across Southern Oregon to step in.
Negotiators and a SWAT team from Medford police safely took a man ? whose name wasn't released ? into protective custody Monday morning in the 500 block of Effie Street, Medford police said in a news release.
He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for a mental-health evaluation.
The man recently had been placed on administrative leave from his job and was "very disgruntled," the news release said.

How do you save a city that is dramatically declining like Detroit? Well, for the mayor of Detroit the answer is simple - you bulldoze one-fourth of the city. Faced with a 300 million dollar budget deficit and a rapidly dwindling tax base, Detroit finds itself having to make some really hard choices.
During the glory days of the 1950s, Detroit was a booming metropolis of approximately 2 million people, but now young people have left in droves and the current population is less than a million. The true unemployment rate for those still living in ... Leaderless Resistence – Countering The Coming Counter Insurgency Obama Employs Bush Administration Tactic, Blocks Photos(Open Salon)
On Wednesday, Obama said he ?would try to block the court-ordered release of photos showing U.S. troops abusing prisoners.? The release, which was to be the result of a Freedom of Information Act request made by the ACLU, had been reasonable in the final weeks of April, but today, Obama chose to come out against the release.
According to the Associated Press, ?out of concern [that] the pictures would "further inflame anti-American opinion" and endanger U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan? Obama planned to block them.

(The Independent)
The US wants to deny that Turkey's slaughter of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915 was genocide. But the evidence is there, in a hilltop orphanage near Beirut
It's only a small grave, a rectangle of cheap concrete marking it out, blessed by a flourish of wild yellow lilies. Inside are the powdered bones and skulls and bits of femur of up to 300 children, Armenian orphans of the great 1915 genocide who died of cholera and starvation as the Turkish authorities tried to "Turkify" them in a converted Catholic college high above Beirut. But for once, it is the almost ... Citibank exposes 600,000 customers’ Social Security numbers(Chicago Tribune)
Ralph Remakel received a Citibank letter postmarked Feb. 16 that notified him of a recent Citibank error. It turns out he wasn't the only one.
In late January, Citibank mailed year-end tax statements to 600,000 Citi customers via the U.S. Postal Service that included the customers' Social Security numbers ... on the outside of the envelope.
Citi called the mistake a "processing error."
Although the nine-digit numbers were not identified as Social Security numbers (they were printed at the lower edge of the envelope with other numbers and letters and resembled a mail routing number), Citi still reacted to the mistake. EVP ... Culled out(ESPN)
The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters. This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is "fluid" and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn't issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.
That's a disappointment, but not really a surprise for fishing industry insiders who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force. These angling advocates have come to suspect ... Senate Warns Employees To Avoid The Drudge Report(Drudge Report)
Tue Mar 09 2010 08:53:37 ET
Just as the healthcare drama in the capitol reaches a grand finale, congressional officials are warning employees to avoid the DRUDGE REPORT!
The Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works issued an urgent email late Monday claiming the DRUDGE REPORT is 'responsible for the many viruses popping up throughout the Senate.'
The committee ordered hill staff: 'Try to avoid' the DRUDGE REPORT 'for now'.
On Monday DRUDGE served over 29 million pages with NOT ONE email complaint received about 'pop ups', or the site serving 'viruses'.
The site was seen 149,967 times since March 1st from users at ... Schumer, Graham Use Immigration to Push National Biometric ID Cardby Kurt Nimmo
Democrat Chuck Schumer and Republican Lindsey Graham have joined forces in an effort to force a biometric ID on the American people. The new national ID scheme is part of a comprehensive immigration bill now in the Senate.
Schumer and Graham want every American worker required to have a biometric ID card in order to work. ?Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such ... News - March 2010
Well we have implemented the new Action-Point System, new Profile section, Member Listings, Member Torrent Lists, and the way torrents are generally displayed.
The Action Point System has been a great success with much more activity on the site. How the system works is that members are rewarded with points for playing a part in the website, like commenting, saying thankyou, etc. A needed things when you think about the field we're in. We do want people to become active in general so as to stop any tyranny to our freedoms. We all need to play a part both on computers and on the street!
Some members have had trouble getting points and we've had to do some tweaking here and there to balance the bonuses. For those that have had trouble, points can be easily had by adding an avatar for example, commenting on shares, and sharing in general. Torrents with our tracker are a ultimate way to get Action Points both at the site level and the sharing level over your bittorrent client.
Coming improvements will be the upgrade of the Messaging System, Share-Offer section and the Request section. Also there is a planned improvement to search and content definition by tags. The intention is to make searching content by topics that much easier. Example someone who wants Home-Schooling material should be able to find it quickly in the Print-Media section. Lessons, Projects, etc. Until then, keep a watch out and spread the message!
