What can I say. It's been a whole week that we've been down from public access. We didn't expect for one moment that the upgrade to session based logins was going to cause such an upheaval and the many road-blocks it brought.  It started with the first move over of the files from the production machine, where everything was running smoothly. On the live website though, the whole engine went down in flames with session bug and nightmares jumping every way possible.  I couldn't turn back as I had spent too much time reworking and improving the engine and the backup if installed would mark an end in production, if forced to use them.  We needed to progress with the way members log into the site and the general security.

The final fix-up entailed upgrading PHP at the server end. Isolating super and global variables in code. Using a custom PHP.ini and .htaccess files. Heaps of experimenting and bug readings, and whopping lot of work.  There are still problems though that will get fixed on the coming days and weeks.
